Since childhood we’ve been taught the importance of being on our toes and prepared, especially for those that are out of our comfort zone. I’ve always found it interesting that all of the most successful people we know have a background in some sort of adventure or challenge. That’s exactly why I have a background in travel and photography. I like to think I can help you get your head out of your ass and start your day with a smile on your face.
Carpe diem is a popular Italian philosophy that teaches us to seize the day and make the best of our lives. Carpe diem also applies to our own lives, especially during times of difficulty and conflict. It’s a philosophy I’m sure many of you have heard of, but I feel like I should just mention it here because it’s something that really resonated with me and I think a lot of people get it.
Carpe diem is a philosophy that is an Italian expression that literally means, “Look at the world as it really is.” It basically states that the way we perceive the world affects our ability to do the best that we can. So the idea of waking up and thinking of the day as something worthwhile is important when things are going just as you expect them to, but we often lose sight of it as the day goes on… until we get home and realize that our day actually sucked.
This is the same lesson that the world has taught us over and over again. One of our favorite quotes about it comes from The Little Prince’s story of The Lion and the Rose. When the prince saw the terrible sight of his father’s death, he didn’t say “What a horrible world!” or “What a horrible death!” he simply said, “Look at the world as it really is.
We’ve all experienced that moment when we realize that we’re just not getting any closer to the end of our own day… and yet we keep on going.
Carpe diem. This is kind of obvious, but it’s a lesson I’ve been trying to teach myself. We all know that life is fleeting, and that the only thing we can really control is how we react to it. But this lesson seems to be hard to teach. Most of us learn it from our parents, and the people we’ve been closest to.
But as I’ve learned, its mostly from the people weve been least close to. That can be hard to stomach, but it doesn’t have to be. We can learn all the lessons we need to from each other. You too can learn from a carpe diem blog.
