Self-awareness is the ability to see the patterns in your life and then recognize them. The question is how often do you recognize patterns in your life? Some of you may be the type of person to go into a room and start writing all over the walls with your hands. That is not self-awareness. That is a sign that you are in a head-down trance.

Self-awareness is a fancy word for “awareness of your own behavior.” Essentially self-awareness is the ability to recognize your own patterns in your behavior and have the ability to change them. In the example of going into a room and starting writing over the walls with your hands, this is more a means of recognizing when you have a pattern of behavior that needs to change or that you can’t do certain things.

It’s not so much self-awareness as awareness of what you’re doing and that you’re actually doing it. That is, when you do something that was expected of you and wasn’t bad, and you don’t do it anymore. Self-awareness is the ability to recognize that you are doing something that is expected and not doing something that was meant to be.

We need to learn to accept our own limitations and live life in ways that allow us to do amazing things. There is no such thing as “self-awareness” as much as it is a state of being.
